Deliver Anything On Time!
No matter how tight a deadline may be, you can always deliver crappy code on time!
As Carl Sagan once said, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence,” and that’s what I’ll provide. In fact, the most incredible thing is that once you’ve read this article, you’ll find it completely evident and wonder why you hadn’t seen it before.
Now let’s discuss the theory, what we believe we are doing…
The theory
Imagine a typical project, and we have a series of milestones to achieve before a certain date. As product members, we must ensure that developers finish and deliver by the deadline. Usually, the first thing we can do is meet with the developers, explain the feature or features that need to be added, and ask for an initial estimate in t-shirt sizing. This will give us a preliminary understanding of the time required and if it will fit into the schedule or if we need to adjust the plan.
If it turns out that the goal can be achieved in the available time, we can continue to see if more features fit or not. But if the goal doesn’t fit, that’s when the headaches begin.
If we can’t achieve the goal, we’ll have to be flexible. There are three main techniques: 1) cut back, 2) expand the team, 3) renegotiate the…
