Unfortunately, judges have the last word.

Also, it seems that we need a security net, so we can do a good job. Layers, doctors, reporters and other professionals often have that security net, we should create our own.

Yet, the easiest path in those situations is to use your feet and walk out. Surely will reduce your pay-grade, but you will make no harm. I know that should not be the answer, but that is the reason why I say that we need a security net.
